In honour of what would have been Jonathan’s 75th birthday, this Saturday, 3rd May, BBC Radio 3 broadcasts Jonathan’s ‘Glasgow Trilogy’. Jonathan was Composer in Association with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and their principal conductor, Ilan Volkov, from 2005 to 2008 and, as part of his commission for the BBC, he composed ‘…towards a pure land’ (2005), ‘Body Mandala’ (2006) and ‘Speakings’ (2008).
The recording is from the 2011 Edinburgh Festival performance of the trilogy by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ilan Volkov. The evening broadcast also includes Jonathan’s ‘first electronic composition’, Mortuos Plango, Vivos Voco (1980).
