Last weekend was an important occasion for family and friends of Jonathan Harvey as the University of Sussex’s Music Department, where Jonathan was Professor of Music from 1977 until 1993, named a music studio in his honour.
On Saturday 29th March 2014, the Jonathan Harvey Electronic Music Studio was officially named and opened. The studio has had an extensive refit and refurbishment with brand new equipment being installed for current undergraduate and postgraduate students, and in preparation for the first cohort of students of the new BA Music Technology degree beginning this September.
Jonathan’s widow, Rosa, and his daughter, Anna, gathered for the launch event with former colleagues and family friends of the Professor, including the distinguished film director Barrie Gavin.
Anna Harvey said: “It was a great thrill for us to see Jonathan’s memory as a composer honoured in such an appropriate way by the University of Sussex, where he was Professor of Music. We hope that students will enjoy the music studio’s facilities and continue in his creative exploration of the boundaries of electronic music.”
