The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester “commemorates the 75th anniversary of one of the UK’s most extraordinary composers, Jonathan Harvey,” this week through a 2-day festival entitled, “In Memoriam Harvey”. There will be a variety of performances throughout Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th October 2014 celebrating Jonathan’s work.
The RNCM website describes Jonathan as “a composer who transformed the transcendental and the beyond into sound.” The festival includes “an all day installation of his electronic works, a talk by Harvey expert Dr Michael Downes, and culminates in his epic work Bhakti – a mystical exploration of the Sanskrit Hymns of the Rig Veda for chamber ensemble and quadrophonic tape.”
